he was an anxious kid with a wondrous dream
to use his gift and make them all believe
that it was him who'd be burned into our history
learned to follow his heart from a star magazine
and he worshipped the art like the praise to a god
booked an AM flight and in the morning he was off
to the city of angels where the demons reside
a journey to hell with a fire inside
not in tune with the real only tv screens
and the youthful feel of his tv dreams
he would soon be faced with the devil and he
would learn that life wasn't always what they said it would be...
when he arrived they greeted him with open hands
filled his pockets with gold gave him a key to the land
they watched his eyes light up over diamonds and pearls
he was losing himself in a material world
the suits like spiders and he was the food
wrapped up in their web paralyzed a recluse
and blinded by illusion of fortune and fame
consumed in delusion refusing to change
his views on the music so they muted his play
and he started to lose it loose screws in his brain
opinions started to spray but they fell to the floor
every opportunity now became a closing door
he was forced to give in and recycle his past
with a one way ticket never bringing him back
traumatized by the wounds and scarred by the fact
a life that once shined so bright could be so black...

this here's a deadly pursuit and it won't get any better
because weather remains the same when you live under umbrellas

that's like beggin' for the night and not enjoyin' the mornin'
but the demons in his rear view are constantly swarmin'
tappin' into his cell but he doesn't realize they're callin'
he just ignores them
and heads straight like he's meant to do
